d10s: The new d20!
Okay, maybe not wholly accurate, but this mod does not use d20s or d100s for skill/combat rolls. Before you burn me at the stake, let me explain:
As you may or may not have known, this mod is intended to be played throughout the lives of several cats, however a newborn kit does not have the same capabilities as a grown Warrior, so we need to compensate for this. Modifiers work, sure, but those are boring and unoriginal, and we at KoD hate that sort of blandness! So, I've devised a system with which each age level takes on skill/combat challenges in a different way. (Plus, I really wanted to give the other dice some more love)
So here's how it works:
As a kit faced with a skill challenge, roll a d6 and add the appropriate modifier
As an apprentice or elder, d8
Warrior, deputy, medicine cat and queen, d10
Leader, d12
Certain factors (as determined by the DM) such as hunger, wounds, etc. that may reduce the die size. For example, a starving warrior will feel weak, and will only be able to use a d8 instead of their usual d10. The same may be true for an expecting queen.
